For many years treated as an expense, the area of Information Technology (IT) came to be seen as a barn of transformation and innovation: a study by IDC Brazil, the WW COVID-19 (Impact on IT Spending Survey) reveals that 42% of companies will increase the IT budget this year, compared to the predicted before the Covid-19 pandemic. The expert explains below the main technological functions – and the potentials of each one:

  • Data Analytics: The goal of the professional who works with data analysis is to examine a large amount of data and extract insights and patterns, creating strategies and decisions to promote business development. They are professionals responsible for collecting, organizing and obtaining statistical abstracts. Explanations are presented by the data analyst in reports for companies to make their strategic decisions.
  • Data Science: The data scientist gathers, interprets and makes predictions that help companies make decisions. These professionals can perform the functions of the data analyst, but the scientist makes the predictions. They are professionals who are experts in predictive modeling and machine learning. They create complex predictive models that can provide valid recommendations based on historical data.
  • Big Data: The big data professional works with a large volume of data, whether structured or not. These professionals have skills in code, mathematics, algorithms, know how to handle large volume of data, cloud computing, work with real-time data, decision tree. They must have critical thinking and closely monitor the new needs of the company, analyzing which technology is ideal for demand. They analyze risks and solve problems, anticipating trends and predicting possible obstacles.
  • Pentester: The pentester is the professional who looks for breaches and security flaws in a system or network, he/she exploits vulnerabilities in a system and validates the effectiveness of security mechanisms, to improve them. The profile of the pentester is that of a developer with extensive knowledge in networks and security systems, with recognized certifications of intrusion testing.
  • Ethical hackers: The ethical hacker is the professional working in the area of information security with the aim of finding security vulnerabilities that a malicious hacker could potentially exploit. This professional needs to have great knowledge of penetration of systems, computer networks, programming and operating systems.
